Supposedly the problems with the suse 10.1 installer were fixed in June.
Post 14 announces it and then post #15 shows the packages impacting the
installer:

If adding install sources doesn't work (due to the bug) you can download
the rpms manually or use the Smart Package manager as an alternative to
Yast.
